Meet In My Life & Fumiko
In My Life
Named after one of the hit songs from our The Beatle’s Theme Transport, In My Life is a 3-month-old male boxer mix who doesn’t let his diagnosis slow him down! The second In My Life had his Veterinary exam when he arrived in Virginia, we knew it was not going to be an easy road for him. He had a severe heart murmur, from a patent ductus arteriosus (more commonly known as a PDA). A patent ductus arteriosus is a congenital heart defect in which there is an irregular transmission of blood between two of the major arteries in the heart. Fortunately, he has a great prognosis of living a normal life with corrective heart surgery. Estimates for this procedure have been quoted for $5,000-$6,000.
Fumiko
Fumiko is a female, 12-week old heeler mix pup rescued from Mississippi along with 7 other siblings. Once Fumiko went into foster care, it was noticed that she could not hold her bladder, and was constantly wet on the back end. A Veterinary exam confirmed she had ectopic ureter(s). Ectopic ureters are a physical defect in one or both of the ureters, which are the small tubes that travel from the kidneys to the bladder. Urine flows from the kidney into the bladder through these ureters, but sometimes one or both do not lead all the way to the bladder, so they bring urine wherever they do lead, which may be the uterus, vagina, or urethra. A non-invasive procedure can be performed to give her the highest chance of regaining full bladder and urine control, but it comes with a cost of around $7,500.
