A Message from Wolf Trap Animal Rescue:

COVID-19 & Pet Adoptions

In the interest of public health and safety, Wolf Trap Animal Rescue will suspend all public adoption events, effective immediately, per current guidelines to exercise caution regarding public community events. All potential adoption interest will be taking place privately, via the meet & greet process, until further notice.

What does this mean for pet adoptions?

The pets rescued and fostered by WTAR still need their forever homes! To help ensure continued placement of pets in homes, potential adopters should fill out an adoption application (dog- or cat-specific), and then immediately request a private “Meet & Greet” for specific dogs or cats they may be interested in. This way, adoptions can still take place, with all parties involved working to best protect themselves and their families from the spread of the Coronavirus (very small sets of people, proper distancing, handwashing, avoiding handshakes, etc.).

Will this affect adoption fees?

These new pet rescue circumstances and processes will be in place for an indefinite period of time. We simply have no way of knowing for sure when the pandemic risk will end. Because of this, we will handle as much of the process as possible online. Therefore, Adoption Fees will be payable by credit card only at this time.

We appreciate your understanding as we make these adjustments, and we thank you for helping us in our mission of Saving Lives!

What are virtual Meet & Greets?

Local safer-at-home guidelines do differ from one another in some ways, but they have inspired our virtual Meet & Greets.

An animal’s foster may now request that Meet & Greets be held virtually, via methods such as FaceTime or Skype. Fosters and prospective adopters will be able to discuss pets, and prospective adopters will still get to see some of the pet’s traits, characteristics, and mannerisms. The exact meeting method will be up to the foster, particularly as it relates to available technology and apps.

How will adoption finalization work?

Even dogs and cats who find their forever homes during private Meet & Greets must complete their 3-week foster/quarantine/veterinary care period. Before Transfer Day, adopters will receive an email with information about completing the Adoption Contract and to remit payment, which will be via credit card only. Adoption Transfer will take place on the same date as the correlating Adoption Day. However, Meet & Greet adopters will meet according to an appointed time slot to finalize the adoption and pick up their new pet. Adopters and fosters should check their email for location and timing details.

Please note: As recommendations for prevention of COVID-19 evolve, these current Adoption Guidelines may change at any time.
